Last month, many readers pointed out that their Amex account showed up a unique targeted offer. Many jumped on the targeted offer immediately and upgraded their cards to the Hilton Aspire Card. Why was the offer so valuable? The original terms said that there was no annual fee for the first year, followed by a $95 fee for the second year. For many, this was a fantastic offer for a card that usually charges a $450 annual fee.

I logged into my account and guess what, I saw the same offer. I quickly took screenshots of the offer and applied for the upgrade. Amex approved me for the offer right away.

In addition, I also downloaded the entire cardmember agreement.
In late December, many readers said that Amex was sending out mailers which contained a different set of terms and conditions, as reported by Doctor of Credit. Here’s what the letter said.
On or after January 30, 2021, you will be charged a prorated Annual Membership Fee for your new card product on the time remaining until your next account anniversary date.
This letter led many to believe that Amex was reneging on its initial offer and was going to charge customers the full annual fee. However, the good news is that Amex has made a positive change that will come as a relief to many who upgraded their cards.
As per multiple reddit users, it seems like American Express is honoring the first year no annual fee on the Hilton Aspire Card. I logged into my account as well and found the updated cardmember agreement with new terms and conditions.

For those who got approved for this offer, this is a great deal. Amex will charge you no annual fee on the Aspire card. However, you can still use all the benefits that come with the card, the annual free night, the $250 airline credit and the $250 resort credit.
This upgraded offer comes with no bonus points. However, if you’re looking to sign up for the Hilton Aspire Card, you can still get the standard sign up bonus of 150,000 Hilton Honors points. In addition, you’ll get one free night on approval and another when you renew the card each year. Moreover, you’ll also get the $250 airline fee credit and the $250 resort credit, in addition to many more benefits on the card. You can read the full list of benefits here.
The Pundit’s Mantra
Overall, it’s great that Amex is honoring this $0 annual fee offer on the Hilton Aspire Card. However, Amex is also running some great offers on their other Hilton co-branded cards as well. These offers can be great, especially if you’re looking to save on annual fees on credit cards.
